Education Iraq: Iraq Needs to 5800 Schools to Meet the Shortage

Baghdad, (Rn) – The Iraqi Ministry of Education, Wednesday, that Iraq needs to 5800 schools in Baghdad and the provinces are to overcome the crisis of lack of school buildings, indicating that it intends to build 200 schools this year.
A spokesman for the ministry, Walid Hussein, Kurdistan News Agency (Rn), “The Ministry of Education identified the shortage of the number of schools in Iraq to 5800 primary and middle schools and junior high in the whole Iraqi cities,” noting that “the ministry’s plan is to continue to build schools so as to reach the required number.”
Hussein said that “Education Minister Mohammad Tamim promised to build 200 schools this year, according to the allocations of money granted to the Ministry,” pointing out that “the focus to building schools will be in the districts, counties and remote areas that are experiencing a severe shortage of school buildings.”
As a result of shortage of school buildings adopted by the Ministry of Education double shifts in many schools, especially those that reside in the district areas away from urban centers.
And warned non-governmental organizations interested in the educational reality of the impact of the absence of appropriate places to study at the scientific level of the students, especially in the districts and areas that are still some schools of mud or camps that lack the most basic of life.
The Iraqi lawmakers have called for accountability and former Minister of Education Khudair Khuzaie a result of the delay made in the project of school buildings during the past four years.
It was Baghdad and the Iraqi provinces saw the launch of popular demonstrations called for the provision of basic services and jobs and the fight against corruption and the corrupt.
And pledged to Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said in a statement after the expiration demonstration in Tahrir Square, checking abuses and breaches that have occurred in specific areas during the demonstrations, and also pledged to follow up all requests personally demonstrators.
