]]>Interpol has issued an international Red Notice for the arrest of fugitive Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi “on suspicion of guiding and financing terrorist attacks.”
“The Red Notice for al-Hashemi represents a regional and international alert to all of Interpol’s 190 member countries to seek their help in locating and arresting him,” the international police agency said on Tuesday, AFP reported.
Hashemi, who is being tried in absentia in a Baghdad court on charges of running a death squad, is currently in Turkey.
Hashemi is accused of ordering attacks and deadly bombings against innocent Iraqi civilians as well as government and security officials over the past years, including a November 2011 car bombing in the capital Baghdad that apparently targeted Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. He and his bodyguards also face accusations of killing six judges.
On December 19, 2011, an investigative committee within the Iraqi Interior Ministry issued an arrest warrant for Hashemi after three of his bodyguards confessed to having taken orders from him to carry out terrorist attacks.
Hashemi later fled to the Kurdistan Region.
Interpol secretary general Ronald Noble said in a statement on Tuesday that the Red Notice serves to limit Hashemi’s “ability to travel and cross international borders.”
“This case also clearly demonstrates the commitment of Iraqi authorities to work with the world police community via Interpol to apprehend individuals facing serious charges,” he added.
This is while on May 4, Hashemi said that he did not trust the standard of justice in Iraq and that he would not return to Baghdad because he believes that charges against him are politically motivated.
A Red Notice is not an internationally binding arrest warrant, but it is a valid request to many of Interpol’s members.

]]>Iraq plans to double its electricity supply to 12,330 megawatts (MW) by 2013 as it brings new sources of power online, the electricity ministry said, but is still seen falling short of demand. Iraq needs investment in most of its industries after years of war and economic decline. In a country where temperatures can top 50 degrees Celsius in summer, power generation is especially crucial.
The national grid supplies only a few hours of power a day to Iraqis. Sporadic electricity supply, one of the public’s top complaints, was at the heart of anti-government protests last year.
Total power supply, currently at 6,000 MW, is expected to reach 9,000 MW in July and 9,600 MW in August, the electricity ministry said in a statement. It said by December, capacity would be up at around 10,400 MW and would reach 12,330 MW in April 2013
Last year, the oil-producing nation managed to supply less than half of the demand, which peaked at 15,000 MW.
The electricity ministry has said it plans to add 22,000 MW of production capacity across Iraq, except for the autonomous northern Kurdish region, by the end of 2015.
Iraq has signed a series of projects, ranging from gas to thermal power plants, with mainly foreign firms, which are expected to help it reach these targets.

]]>Iran’s PressTV reports that the country’s Gas Engineering and Development Company is planning to build a gas pipeline to export gas to Iraq.
Ali-Reza Gharibi, the Managing Director of company, said that “the 48-inch gas pipeline to Iraq, which will run for 220 kilometers, will be a branch of Iran’s sixth national gas pipeline”.
He went on to say that building the pipeline will begin as soon as a new gas deal is signed between Iran and Iraq.
The $450m project will be built by Iranian contractors, and will carry 25 million cubic meters per day of Iranian natural gas to Iraq.

]]>United Nations announced on Friday for “failure” five year plan in Iraq, pointing to recast once again taking advantage of mistakes.
The Iraqi government has allocated $186 billion five-year plan for the implementation of which $100 billion of public budgets of the country and the remaining $86 billion of investment projects of local and foreign.
According to the CBI that five-year plan adopted by the Iraqi government dominated by theoretical and shall address the impediments to its implementation as soon as possible for the advancement of economic development in the country.
He said UNDP Administrator of the United Nations in Iraq, Peter Batchelor’s “Twilight News” that “there is a reformulation of the national five-year plan prepared by the Iraqi government in 2010 for lack of statistics and numbers to the database.”
The Ministry of Federal Planning announced earlier that the five-year plan will start from 2013 to 2017 because of political differences and security situation.
Batchelor said he was “building on the lessons of the five-year plan and we as the United Nations are supporting the Government to implement the plan there are mistakes that we brought from the first plan and we will learn not to repeat these mistakes.”
The Iraqi authorities must first make a census before the implementation of five-year plan of development.
The dispute centered on the census on the basis of Kirkuk province, its components multiple of Turkmen, Arabs and Kurds and the province of Nineveh, multi-component as well.
The last census was conducted in Iraq in 1987, followed by the last census in 1997 but did not include the three governorates of the Kurdistan Region.
He Batchelor that “the situation in Iraq is getting worse, but the distribution (percentages) of poverty is important between the various provinces, as the United Nations and we have good information on all the provinces and the distribution of poverty.”
The Ministry of Planning in the past that the Iraqi province of Muthanna, the most in the poorest provinces of Diwaniyah, followed by Salah al-Din, Dhi Qar, respectively.
According to the Ministry of Planning, the alleviation of poverty need $30 billion in the budget of 2012, as recommended by the Central Bank.
