Iraq Just Has to Work Better
“[Iraq] doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to work better.”
Those were the words this week of BBC‘s World Affairs Editor, John Simpson, a man very familiar with the workings of Iraqi society. And while no country is perfect, we can find a long list of countries that work better than Iraq at the moment.
That’s a problem, but also an opportunity for the people and businesses that can transform Iraq into a properly-functioning country.
LUKoil, for example, is developing facilities at educational, medical and sports institutions in the districts bordering its West Qurna-2 project; CMA CGM Group is about to open a major new trans-shipment depot in Baghdad, which will improve the movement of freight; and two hotel groups have announced their intention to expand operations in Iraq.
Iraq has made big improvements in recent years, but much remains to be done.
