Iraqi Ministry of Environment announced that it was launching a prevention campaign against the dangers of venomous snakes in Al Diwaniyah province; pointing out that it was looking into the reasons behind the widespread of these snakes as well as solutions to spare citizens the hazards.
“Al DIwaniyah Health Directorate teams undertook a search campaign to find these venomous snakes widespread in Al Hafar village where many bites were recorded”, said head of the Environmental Awareness and Media Directorate Amir Ali Al Hassun in a press release issued on Friday July 12, of which Alsumaria got a copy.
“Technical teams try to look into the real reasons behind the widespread of these snakes in that village”, added Al Hassun; he pointed out that “the Ministry of Environment is trying to collaborate with the Health ministry to provide the necessary Antidotes that cure snake bites.”
“Knowing the reason behind the phenomenon will help detect their location and reduce the hazard citizens might face; without threatening the biodiversity in those regions”, stressed Al Hassun.
Al Diwaniyah’s Environmental Directorate revealed on June 16, 2013 that new species of snakes have been seen for the first time in the western part of the province. Meanwhile the Health Directorate asked for the help of a factory specializing in snake venom antidote.
