The Allocation of More Than a Trillion Dinars Within the Current Year Budget to Modernize Roads and Bridges

The government allocated within the current year budget 1.142 trillion dinars (billion dollars) to the Ministry of Construction and Housing for the construction of residential complexes, government institutions and the establishment of projects, roads and bridges, which has been entrusted to the General Authority for Roads and bridges, the body overseeing the design of these projects, maintenance and processing.

Said Associate Director of Roads and Bridges Hussein Jassim Al-Moussawi said the “network of existing roads was created mostly during the seventies and eighties, which means it has become obsolete, and here lies the need for the establishment of the alternatives or maintenance continuously to increase the operational lifetime, but what happened is that she has been to neglect during the past two decades due to wars.”

“The 80 percent of the roads need maintenance performed under the annual plan.”

For his part, spokesman for the Ministry of Construction and Housing Zaid Hussein that “his ministry took place mechanisms for its companies, the makings of a maintenance work fast on the roads.”

He said, “There is research to prepare a feasibility study and impact environmental projects for roads and bridges in the provinces of the Five-Year Plan 2010-2014, taking advantage of the grants in projects in the transport network.
