Tourism Reports 75% Increase in Kurdistan Region

ERBIL, (AKnews) – The Kurdistan Region‘s investment board has announced a 75 percent rise in tourism in the last six months in comparison to last year.
Board spokesperson Nadr Rosti expects 2.5m tourists to visit the region in 2012.
Rosti added that the tourism percentage depends on security and stability in the region. Securing the borders of the region also affects the number of tourists.
The region has 370 hotels, 180 motels, 970 restaurants and 45 tourism villages.
The number of hotels, motels and restaurants opening increased 25 percent this year in the region.
Some 1.7 million tourists came to the Kurdistan Region in 2011.
